Carolinas Vacation

Jonas and I went on a vacation in the middle of August (yes, I am aware that it is the end of October... I'm getting there!).  Our first stop was to visit Aunt Laura in North Carolina.  We really enjoyed the trip down there, even though it took us 13 hours!  We chatted, listened to a bunch of audio books, and stopped to take in some of the views.

Laura and Carlos took us swimming, canoeing, and out for Dim Sum.  Jonas loved watching shark week with Carlos, and we had a great time catching up with our friends.

From there we headed down to Myrtle Beach for the rest of the week.  We had a gorgeous view from our hotel room.

Jonas' favorite part was playing in the waves and letting them crash into him.  He liked playing on his boogie board, too.  We had some fun on the beach building sand castles and sand volcanoes.

We went on a helicopter ride that went over Broadway at the Beach and the ocean.  Jonas couldn't have cared less about the views, but he loved the headset he got to wear and talking with the pilot.

We also went to Ripley's Aquarium.  We loved the walk through tunnel and seeing the sharks swimming above our heads.  Jonas also really liked the fish he could touch.  We visiting the tiger sharks several times and waited 1/2 an hour for a sting ray to come close enough to touch!

We went on a 2 hour boat tour and saw lots of pelicans and dolphins.  They liked to follow the shrimp boats, and even those were pretty neat to see!  On the way back to the dock, they asked Jonas if he wanted to drive the ship.  Super cool!

We also went to a pirate dinner theatre, but it was pretty dark in there so we didn't really get any good pictures.  On the way home we stopped overnight at Aunt Laura's again and drew a big mural of our trip to Myrtle Beach on her driveway with chalk!

It was definitely a fun vacation, and I hope you enjoy the pictures...even if they are over 2 months late!

Vacation to "Aunt" Laura's - The Day at the Campground

We spent the day Thursday at the KOA campground that we were staying at. This is how Laura and Cat look at breakfast time - pretty scary!

They had an awesome "jumping pillow" there. Jonas' favorite thing to do was run and fall down! I think the adults might have enjoyed it the most!

We had camper pies for dinner, cooked over a wonderful fire built with Laura's Three Springs skills. Right before bedtime we went to Maggie Moos for some ice cream. You might be wondering if Jonas actually ate any. I'm guessing maybe half of it. It is the kind of place where you can pick your own "mix-in", and Jonas picked marshmallows. Of course, when he got the cone with the marshmallows in it, he proceeded to pick them all out and pile them on a napkin. It is not easy to pick all the marshmallows out of a cone and eat it before it melts!

Vacation to "Aunt" Laura's - Wednesday

On Wednesday, we went to the Discovery Place in downtown Charlotte. Jonas saw lots of different animals, got to do experiments, and even touch starfish! But his favorite things were playing with blocks and playing in water...go figure.

After the Discovery Place, we walked around a bit downtown and headed to a little sandwich place for lunch. After about and hour there, Jonas fell sound asleep on the table. So, we stayed there another hour and a half so Jonas could nap.

We also checked out the Charlotte mall, which is WAY bigger than the ones in Buffalo. There is even a train that drives around, which Jonas loved!

Laura also made us a delicious dinner that night, chicken alfredo, one of my favorites. Jonas and I both loved it. Thanks "Aunt" Laura!

Vacation to "Aunt" Laura's - The Lake

On Tuesday we went to Sonic for lunch and got to be served by a lady on roller skates! Tons of fun...unfortunately Jonas slept through the whole thing. The waitress did give us toys for him though! Later in the day, we went to a beautiful lake near Laura's house. We had a nice walk and saw a bunch of baby ducks. We stayed and had dinner at a restaurant there. Jonas was out until about 9 PM, but he was a good boy!

Here's Jonas at the playground they had there. He had to hold his own against the big kids there; he did a pretty good job!
