Camping at Stonybrook

A couple weekends ago we went camping with the Laffertys to Stonybrook State Park.  As always, we really enjoyed our time there and the kids loved it.  Friday night it was pretty rainy, so we took off to go bowling for a little while to try to wait out the rain (which didn't work, by the way.  It rained all night!)  We had the whole place to ourselves, which was pretty nice!

Jonas' belly hurt for a little bit, so he took a little rest.

After lunch we went on our usual creek side hike, which usually means we walk at least half of the way right in the water.  Of course, Jonas loves water, so Jonas loves this hike!

Jonas took this picture of me - looks like I'm trying to advertise for Diet Coke.

We went home on Sunday, but before the fun ended, we went to Beaver Island for the afternoon for a Trinity picnic and beach day.

Memorial Day Camping

We spent our Memorial Day weekend camping at Allegany State Park with the Laffertys, the Radts, and the Sirgeys!  Jonas had a ton of fun, despite the mosquito bites.  It was also his weekend to bring home Brother Bear, his class' pet stuffed animal.  We had fun taking pictures of him, too!

Our first campfire - roasting marshmallows and making s'mores!

Saturday morning we went on a hike to see the bear caves.  We only found one actual cave, but we got to climb through tunnels and on top of rocks, which Jonas thought was pretty cool.  They also got to use some walkie talkies that Uncle Mike brought, which was was definitely the highlight of the morning.

Saturday afternoon we went on a creek walk - which involved swatting away a crazy amount of mosquitos the entire time.  It was nice to be in the water and cool down, though!

We celebrated Aunt Mary's birthday while we were there, with a cookout and Minnie cupcakes.  Happy Birthday Aunt Mary!

Sunday's big event was going to Thunder Rocks.  It's basically a big area in the woods filled with giant rocks that the kids could climb on.  They all loved this - even Abby!

Sunday afternoon we headed to the general store for some ice cream.  The have a giant bear in the store that was fun to take pictures with.

Before we left on Monday we went back to Thunder Rocks one more time.  This time the exciting part was the wildlife we saw there - a butterfly and a snake!  Jonas found the butterfly hurt on the parking lot, and wanted to take a picture to show his classmates since they just finished learning about life cycles.  Uncle Matt found the snake behind a tree, and Jonas was able to get pretty close to it without it slithering away.  Cool!

Jonas was good and exhausted, and in bed by 6:30 Monday evening.  I call that a good weekend!
