The Kindergartners were allowed to pick out books from the school library to take home for the first time this year last Tuesday. Jonas picked out a Star Wars book, and was totally into reading it all week.

Rockets

Papa got a model rocket for Christmas (and we still had one lying around), so everyone headed to the park yesterday to blast them off. We were pretty successful! They both blasted, and we even found one afterwards! Jonas was a little disappointed we couldn't get the other one out of the tree it landed in, but he is excited to be able to blast off the one we found again soon.

Bethany and Jonas were pretending to be Hayden last night. Started out pretty hysterical...they were both cracking up trying not to let Papa feed them with a bottle. Of course, by the end they both thought it was awesome, and I'm pretty sure we are going to have to squash all their fun soon and tell them they are actually way too old to use a bottle in real life.

Strong Museum of Play

To end our Christmas vacation, we all headed to Rochester to the Strong Museum of Play. Even though I still wasn't feeling too great, I refused to let our entire vacation go by without doing anything fun! We did have a great day there, and Jonas and his cousins had a blast experiencing the fun exihibits that they have there. We will definitely go again, and hopefully next time we won't end it with a trip to the doctor for double ear infections!

The last half an hour and the way home was rough. Jonas started complaining about his ear, and I got him to the doctor as soon as we got home. A double ear infection and some amoxicillan, and today we're feeling much better!

Zoo in the Winter

Some of our best zoo trips have been in the winter. It's a little cold, and we have to bundle up a bit, but we always see animals out and about that we almost never get to see. This year was no exception, and we had a great time!

Here Comes Santa Claus!

Jonas was super excited when he read the note. He left some cookies, M&Ms, and milk for Santa, some reindeer food for Rudolph, and headed to bed. He told me he was just going to pretend to sleep so he could see Santa come....and promptly fell asleep within 3 minutes. Today was Christmas party day at school. Which basically means super hyper children super excited about Christmas! It's my favorite day of the year...here's a picture synopsis of the day. Enjoy!

Jonas was an angel again this year in the Sunday School Christmas pageant. Although Giraffee had to be with him most of the time for support for some reason, he did a really good job! Unfortunately, I couldn't get very many pictures since I was directing the kids. This will give you an idea of the overwhelming cuteness, though :-)

Swim Class

Jonas just finished his first round of Level 1 swim class. He learned a lot since the beginning, and overall did a really good job. To pass Level 1 he has to be able to swim the width of the pool with no help. He's not quite there yet, but take a look at how close he is!

Yes, I know have neglected this blog for 2 months now. A few funny conversations that have happened recently:

Me (trying on new clothes): How does this outfit look?
Jonas: It's kinda good.
Me: Remember to tell the truth.
Jonas: It's actually kinda bad.

Jonas (talking about Lucky the Leprechaun that visited his classroom last year on St. Patrick's Day): Remember that guy that spilled green paint and left footprints all over our classroom?
Me: Lucky? What about him?
Jonas: Is Santa going to bring him presents?
Me: I don't know, what do you think?
Jonas: I think so, he wasn't being bad, he was just being funny like me.

Thanksgiving morning I had one of those moments when I almost overflowed with pride and love for my son. As a family (grandma, papa, Jonas, and me) we delivered 6 thanksgiving dinners from the City Mission to people in need. I explained what we were doing to Jonas, and he decided that he wanted to hand out the bags of food. So at every door, Jonas cheerfully handed over a bag of food, while announcing "Happy Thanksgiving!" to each person. He even let an old lady hug and kiss him (twice). It was almost as if he sensed that these people needed cheering up on a holiday, and he was right there stepping up to help as best he could. These are the times when I am reminded what a good, sweet boy I am blessed with. City

Jonas' new cousin, Hayden Michael was born this morning at 4:57 A.M. He is 6 lbs, 11 oz, and is 20" long. I got to go up and see him this afternoon, but Jonas has to wait until Uncle Mike and Aunt Mary bring him home. He is so excited to meet his new little cousin, even if he thinks newborn babies look like aliens!

Growing Up

I realized yesterday that my little boy really is growing up. This realization comes at a good time for me. I have been slightly anxious about how he will do in Kindergarten, and about if he is ready to be at school all day long. It seems like he is showing me in his own way that he is ready, even if he might have some struggles along the way.

We were eating lunch at Applebee's yesterday and Jonas had to go to the bathroom. He insisted that I let him go in the men's room because "I'm too old to go potty with Mommy now". He also went to a VBS program yesterday at a different school, and as I was dropping him off I realized that this is the first time I had left him somewhere and not stayed to teach. I told him I would pick him up when it was over, bracing myself for him to turn into clingy, whiny Jonas. He looked and me and said, "you're leaving??". I said yes, and his response was..."Ok!! Bye!!".

So, either he's growing up and ready for Kindergarten, or he's just sick of me (and if that's the case, he's going to be really disappointed with Kindergarten!).

Jonas got home yesterday afternoon from a fun vacation with Daddy at Black Lake. Hopefully, I'll have some pictures to share with you soon. Until then, here's what we did yesterday.

Our Aunt Mary Jean and Uncle Jim are up visiting from Florida, so we visited with them and our cousin Ben at Grandma and Papa's house.
